外國語學(xué)院設(shè)有英語系、德語系、翻譯系、大學(xué)英語一部、大學(xué)英語二部、研究生公共外語部、MTI教育中心等七個教學(xué)單位、以及英語語言學(xué)習(xí)中心和外語電化教學(xué)中心兩個教學(xué)服務(wù)單位。學(xué)院建有翻譯研究所、外語教育研究所、外國語言研究所、外國文化研究所、外國文學(xué)研究所等五個研究機(jī)構(gòu)。
學(xué)院現(xiàn)擁有英語、德語、翻譯三個本科專業(yè),外國語言文學(xué)一級學(xué)科碩士學(xué)位授權(quán)點、翻譯碩士專業(yè)學(xué)位授權(quán)點。2012年“外國語言文學(xué)”被評為湖北省重點培育學(xué)科。
學(xué)院現(xiàn)有在校本科生、研究生近800人,專任教師146人,其中教授9人,副教授59人,博士(含在讀)18人,碩士98人。學(xué)院設(shè)有外國語言文學(xué)湖北省“楚天學(xué)者”設(shè)崗學(xué)科,聘有“楚天學(xué)者”講座教授1位,校聘特聘教授1位,外籍教師3位。學(xué)院除承擔(dān)本院本科、碩士的全部教學(xué)任務(wù)外,還承擔(dān)著全校本科、碩士和博士研究生等各層次學(xué)生的公共外語教學(xué)任務(wù),以及出國留學(xué)、教師培訓(xùn)、等級考試等外語培訓(xùn)任務(wù)。學(xué)院課程體系多元化,除英語、德語外,還開設(shè)了法語、日語和俄語等小語種課程。學(xué)院的大學(xué)英語教學(xué)成績顯著,2011年被評為教育部大學(xué)英語教學(xué)改革示范點。
學(xué)院秉承“中外貫通,德業(yè)兼修”的院訓(xùn),貫徹“教學(xué)立院、科研強(qiáng)院”的方針,在教學(xué)、科研、師資隊伍建設(shè)、學(xué)科建設(shè)以及對外學(xué)術(shù)交流等方面都取得了顯著成績。近五年來,學(xué)院科研工作穩(wěn)步發(fā)展,先后發(fā)表論文440余篇,出版教材、專著、譯著50余部,承擔(dān)國家、省、部、校級課題100多項。學(xué)院教學(xué)改革成績顯著,1位教師獲湖北省“十大優(yōu)秀中青年翻譯家”;先后有74名教師獲學(xué)校教學(xué)優(yōu)秀獎;獲批校級教學(xué)成果獎4項;3名教師在省級青年教師授課比賽中獲獎6人次,10名教師在校級青年教師教學(xué)競賽中獲獎;2名教師獲“武漢科技大學(xué)教學(xué)名師”稱號,7名教師獲“武漢科技大學(xué)教學(xué)模范”稱號,9名教師獲“武漢科技大學(xué)教學(xué)新秀”稱號。學(xué)院一貫重視開展國內(nèi)外學(xué)術(shù)交流活動。近五年來,先后有20余名教師前往劍橋大學(xué)、北卡羅來納大學(xué)教堂山分校等國外知名高校訪學(xué)。學(xué)院學(xué)風(fēng)建設(shè)成績斐然,連續(xù)十一年被評為校“優(yōu)良學(xué)風(fēng)學(xué)院”。在“外研社杯”各類英語競賽、全國口譯大賽、希望之星英語風(fēng)采大賽、湖北省外語翻譯大賽、“互聯(lián)網(wǎng)+”大學(xué)生創(chuàng)新創(chuàng)業(yè)大賽、湖北省大學(xué)生信息技術(shù)創(chuàng)新大賽等學(xué)科競賽中均取得了優(yōu)異成績。
外國語學(xué)院擁有良好的辦學(xué)條件。學(xué)院建有同聲傳譯實驗室、筆譯實驗室、翻譯實習(xí)實訓(xùn)室、商務(wù)英語實訓(xùn)室等專業(yè)實驗室和10余間多媒體語音室。學(xué)院的英語語言學(xué)習(xí)中心2009年獲評湖北省英語語言學(xué)習(xí)示范中心。該中心擁有機(jī)位約500座,建有數(shù)字化語言實驗室、網(wǎng)絡(luò)視聽實驗室、學(xué)生自主學(xué)習(xí)室,可以滿足全校學(xué)生的英語自主學(xué)習(xí)所需。學(xué)院還設(shè)有圖書分館,專藏外文書、刊2萬余冊,供師生借閱。
